Few places in the country have been photographed as often as the Grand Canyon, but this view is tied to the Colorado River itself, the water that cut the gorge over millions of years. The title credits John K. Hillers, who joined Major John Wesley Powell's surveys of the canyon country in the early 1870s and made some of the first photographs of its interior. The catalog dates the print to about 1872 and attributes it to Fennemore, based on a 1989 Smithsonian Institution Press study of Hillers's Western work, so the attribution is worth weighing with that in mind.
