The record gives this operating room as possibly part of the hospital on Ellis Island, and the question mark in the title shows that the cataloguers were not certain of the location. The island's hospital complex treated immigrants held for medical reasons, and by the early 1900s it was a major facility of its kind. This photograph, dated to about 1909, shows a surgical space where doctors worked on patients who had come through the port seeking entry to the United States.
