Wardman Courts is a residential complex in the District of Columbia, its name tied to Harry Wardman, the developer who built many of the city's apartment buildings, rowhouses, and hotels in the early twentieth century. The negative dates from roughly 1918 to 1928, a stretch of rapid building in Washington as the city grew. The National Photo Company, which recorded many views of the capital in those years, made the image, and Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the natural deterioration of its original coatings.
