What sets this negative apart is its subject, the Semmes Motor Co. and a car identified as a Turville, though that title comes from unverified data written on the negative or its sleeve. The glass plate dates from between 1918 and 1928, when the automobile was becoming a familiar part of daily life in Washington, D.C. It belongs to the National Photo Company Collection, whose photographers recorded the city's streets, buildings and businesses in these years. Streaks and other blemishes on the glass come from deterioration of its original coatings, and they are visible across the image.
