A Ford touring car photographed at the Library of Congress makes an unusual subject among the National Photo Company's Washington views. The company's studio recorded the city's streets, buildings and traffic on glass plates dated roughly between 1910 and 1926, a period when open-topped Ford touring cars, including the widely sold Model T, were becoming a common sight on American roads. The title came from unverified notes on the negative sleeve, so the car's exact model and the date remain uncertain. Faint streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the natural breakdown of its original coating, which is typical of plates this age.
