A Ford touring car parked near the Capitol gives this view of Washington a distinctly early automobile character. Open touring cars like this one, with folding tops and room for several passengers, were among the most common family vehicles of the 1910s and early 1920s. The image comes from the National Photo Company, a commercial studio that recorded the capital's streets and landmarks on glass negatives, and the Library of Congress received it as a gift in 1947. The record dates it only to between 1910 and 1926, so the exact day remains uncertain.
