A new Ford photographed at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., sets this glass negative apart as a record of the automobile arriving on the capital's streets. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that documented Washington in the early twentieth century, made the image sometime between 1918 and 1928, when cars like the Model T were bringing motoring within reach of ordinary families. Worth noticing is the contrast between the modern vehicle and the neoclassical building behind it, along with the streaks and blemishes that mark the aging glass.
