Snow lies across a path through bare trees, with a few walkers making their way along it, in a view of the Boston Public Gardens. The gardens were laid out in the 1830s on land filled in from a marshy edge of the Common, and they became one of the city's first landscaped public parks, designed for strolling in every season. The winter view shows how the paths and plantings were meant to be used year-round, even when the trees had lost their leaves and the ground was white.
