The wide format sets this 1910 view apart. It sweeps across a city park with the street's buildings rising behind the trees, so the whole block reads at once rather than as a single corner. Panoramic photographs like this were made with special wide-film or rotating cameras and were popular in the early 1900s for recording streetscapes and civic spaces. Boston had been investing in its parks for decades, most notably through Frederick Law Olmsted's Emerald Necklace, which began in the late 1870s, so a scene like this reflects a city proud of its green space. Worth noticing are the street-level details, the mature trees, and the way the buildings frame the park.
