A rider in Revere costume, identified in the record as Jean E. Mohile, moves through a city street on horseback, a scene that recalls the ride that made Paul Revere a national figure. On the night of April 18, 1775, Revere crossed from Boston to warn colonial militia that British troops were marching toward Lexington and Concord. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1860 poem "Paul Revere's Ride" later turned that night's journey into a enduring American legend. Pictures like this one show how the story has been carried forward through reenactment and public memory.
