The Paul Revere House on North Square is the oldest surviving structure in downtown Boston, a timber-framed home dating to about 1680 and now one of the park sites within Boston National Historical Park. Revere bought the house in 1770 and lived there with his family, and his work as a silversmith and engraver tied him to the surrounding North End. He set out on the night of April 18, 1775, to warn colonial militia that British troops were moving toward Lexington and Concord. Today the house is furnished to suggest how a prosperous artisan's household looked in the late eighteenth century.
