Few views of Boston show the aftermath of a fire as fully as this wide panorama of a city left in ruins. The Boston setting most likely points to the Great Boston Fire of November 1872, which swept through the downtown business district over two days and destroyed several hundred buildings. Panoramic views like this were valued at the time as records of the damage and the rebuilding, with chimneys and broken walls standing among the rubble. Because the gallery files it under color prints, it may be a later tinted or reproduced version, so the original source is worth checking for the exact date.
