Boats and passengers crowd the water in this 1904 panorama, which the title places on a park lagoon in Boston, most likely the one in the Public Garden, where swan-shaped pleasure boats had carried riders since 1877. The garden was a favorite escape from the dense city streets, and its lagoon drew families, couples and children on warm afternoons. The sepia tone and wide format were typical of picture-making at the time, and the long frame lets you count the passengers and see how many people went out on the water for a summer outing.
