Few posters from the French home front name a holiday as plainly as this one, which announces a Journée du Poilu on December 25 and 26, 1915, organized by Parliament. "Poilu," slang for the French infantry soldier, roughly means "hairy one," and the day aimed to direct public generosity toward men at the front during the war's second winter. Maurice Neumont signed this color lithograph, and this copy is a signed proof, a detail that sets it apart from the standard printing.
