This two-color lithograph announces the Journée du Poilu, a national day of fundraising held on October 31 and November 1, 1915, and organized by the French Parliament. The word "poilu," slang for the French infantryman of the First World War, names the soldiers the day was meant to support. The poster is signed by Charles Léandre, a well-known French caricaturist and illustrator, and this numbered impression, 176 of 200, shows how wartime posters were produced in limited runs for the public and for collectors.
