This view shows Byers Hall alongside the newly completed Vanderbilt Hall on the Yale University campus in New Haven, Connecticut. The pairing of an older building with a newer one reflects how the university was expanding its residential and academic housing in the early 1900s. The image is a glass dry plate negative from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that made large-format views of American towns, campuses, and landscapes for sale as prints and postcards. Its survival as a glass negative gives researchers a sharp, high-detail record of the campus at that time.
