The Yale University gymnasium in New Haven, Connecticut, is the subject of this view, a record of one of the buildings where the university's students trained and competed in the years before 1915. The Detroit Publishing Company, which operated from the 1890s into the 1920s, sent photographers across the country to document cities, campuses and landmarks, and sold the results as postcards and prints. This example is an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative, a large format that captured architectural detail well. It came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
