Three Brooklyn players share this frame: pitcher Bill James, veteran infielder Bill Dahlen, and outfielder Cy Seymour, all of whom wore the Superbas uniform in 1912. The picture is a glass negative from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied newspapers with news and sports photographs in the early twentieth century. Its survival in the Library of Congress offers a useful look at how ballplayers were photographed for the press in that era, when a club's roster and a player's face were the main draws for readers following the game.
