Two Brooklyn National League players, Jim Pastorius and Nap Rucker, stand on the field in this 1909 glass negative. Rucker was a left-handed pitcher who spent most of his career with Brooklyn, while Pastorius was a utility player on the same club. The photograph comes from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold pictures of athletes, politicians and news events to newspapers. The date and identification rest on later research by the Society for American Baseball Research, so the picture is a useful record of a Brooklyn team in the Dead Ball Era.
