Hub Northern is the subject of this portrait of a Brooklyn National League ballplayer, the only item in the record that singles out one man rather than the team as a whole. The team was then known as the Superbas, and in 1912 it played at Washington Park in Brooklyn, a few years before Ebbets Field opened. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that sold pictures to newspapers and magazines, made the glass negative. Its date of 1912 is a bracketed estimate from later baseball-history research, so it is best read as a close approximation.
