Easter Monday egg rolling on the White House lawn is the scene here, shown on a stereograph card meant for a stereoscope, which fused two slightly offset photographs into one image with depth. The event had moved to the White House grounds after Congress barred egg rolling on the Capitol lawn in 1876, and President Rutherford B. Hayes welcomed children to the President's grounds beginning in 1878. Philadelphia publisher C.H. Graves issued this card around 1901, part of a large market for stereo views of Washington and everyday national life.
