A rustic log cabin sits among the trees in Palmer Park, the northwest Detroit green space named for Thomas W. Palmer, a Michigan U.S. senator. Log structures like this were a popular feature of turn-of-the-century parks, where designers hoped to give city visitors a taste of the woods close to home. The glass negative comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, which issued views of American cities and landscapes in the early 1900s, and it offers a glimpse of how Detroit presented its public grounds around 1905.
