This view shows the interior of a log cabin dining room in Palmer Park, a Detroit park named for Thomas W. Palmer, the lawyer and U.S. senator. The rustic cabin, with its exposed timber and plain furnishings, reflects the early 1900s fashion for woodsy park retreats where city residents could eat and relax away from the downtown streets. The Detroit Publishing Company made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative around 1906 as part of its large effort to document the city and its surroundings, and the broken corner on the left shows the plate's age.
