The Pension Office, which handled Civil War veterans' pension claims, occupied the Pension Building on F Street NW, a late-nineteenth-century landmark known for its enormous Great Hall and rows of tall columns. This glass negative records one of its interior spaces around 1920 to 1921, when the National Photo Company was documenting Washington's government buildings and streets. Faint streaks across the plate come from the natural deterioration of the original coating, not from the scene itself.
