Peoples Drug Store at Seventh and K Streets was a neighborhood fixture in downtown Washington, and this interior view shows the store in the early 1920s, when corner drugstores doubled as gathering spots with soda fountains and sundries counters. The National Photo Company, which documented the city in thousands of glass negatives during the early twentieth century, made the image, and its commercial interiors offer a useful record of how retail spaces looked just after the First World War. The glass plate shows streaks and blemishes from deterioration of its original coating, which is visible in the print.
