The storefront of Peoples Drug Store at 1150 Seventh Street Northwest captures a busy downtown shopping block in Washington in the early 1920s. The National Photo Company, a local firm that documented the city's streets, buildings and businesses for decades, made the picture. Its date is estimated from other negatives in the same range, so the scene likely dates from between 1920 and 1921. Faint streaks and blemishes across the glass come from the natural deterioration of the original coating, and they add a visible sign of the negative's age.
