Inside the Peoples Drug Store at 14th and U streets in Washington, this glass negative captures a neighborhood pharmacy interior from around 1920 to 1921. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that recorded the capital's streets, buildings and businesses, made the picture, which offers a glimpse of everyday retail life in that part of the city. The 14th and U corner was a busy commercial crossroads at the time. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from natural deterioration of the original coating, not from the scene itself.
