Hotel Dennis stood in Atlantic City, the New Jersey resort that drew visitors by rail from Philadelphia and New York in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This view survives as a glass dry plate negative from about 1908, made by the Detroit Publishing Company, which produced and sold scenic views of American towns, resorts and landmarks during those decades. Its catalog number, P 127, places it within the company's series of Atlantic City pictures. The glass negative format preserves fine detail, and the picture records how the city's grand hotels presented themselves to a growing tourist public.
