The Traymore was one of the grand oceanfront hotels on the Atlantic City boardwalk, and this large glass negative records it during the years when the resort drew heavy rail traffic from Philadelphia and New York. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sent photographers across the country in the early twentieth century, made views like this for its commercial catalog. The 8 by 10 inch format preserves architectural detail that smaller negatives would lose, and the catalog dates the image only to between 1910 and 1920.
