Hotel Islesworth stood among the large resort hotels that lined Atlantic City's oceanfront in the early 1900s. The city had grown into a major seaside destination after railroad lines brought visitors from Philadelphia and New York in the late 1800s, and its hotels catered to families and seasonal guests. The view comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, which sent photographers across the country to record places for sale as postcards and prints, and its 8 by 10 inch glass negative holds fine detail.
