A park of artillery stands at Broadway Landing on the Appomattox River in Virginia, a riverside point the Union army used for supplies during the siege of Petersburg in the last months of the war. The image survives as a wet collodion glass stereograph negative made in 1865, meant to be viewed as one of a pair for a three-dimensional effect. The negative sleeve reads "Yorktown," so the location is uncertain, and the photographer was once credited as Alexander Gardner, an attribution that is no longer considered firm.
