Two hotels anchor this view of the Atlantic City beach: the Marlborough-Blenheim rises in the center, and the Hotel Traymore sits at the right edge. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this glass plate negative between 1910 and 1920, was known for documenting scenic places and leisure across the country. Atlantic City's long boardwalk and row of grand oceanfront hotels made it one of the most popular seaside resorts in the nation, and the bathers gathered on the sand below show how central the beach was to the town's identity. The company kept two variant negatives of the scene, one marked as a duplicate.
