Holy Trinity Catholic Church stands in Georgetown, the historic neighborhood in northwest Washington, D.C., and this glass negative captures it as the parish's Gothic Revival building was seen in the years just after 1909. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that operated in Washington in the early twentieth century, produced a large body of views of the city's buildings, streets and institutions, often for sale as postcards and prints. Holy Trinity, founded in 1787 and among the oldest Catholic parishes in the country, was a landmark for Georgetown's residents. The negative's surface shows streaks and blemishes from age, a reminder of how fragile these early glass plates have become.
