Georgetown University, the Jesuit institution founded in 1789 and the oldest Catholic university in the United States, appears here in a south-facing view captured on glass. The National Photo Company made many views of Washington in the years around the 1910s, and many of them were issued as postcards and souvenirs of the capital. The record dates the negative only to a span between 1909 and 1919. The plate also shows streaks and blemishes from the gradual deterioration of its original coating, which are part of the object's physical history.
