The campus at Georgetown University, the Jesuit school on the heights above the Potomac in Washington, D.C., is the subject here, and the image is one of the many glass negatives the National Photo Company made of the capital's institutions in the 1920s. Georgetown was founded in 1789, making it the oldest Catholic university in the United States. The company's Washington views were commercial work, and they now document the city's buildings and daily life during that decade. The record dates the negative to 1925 or 1926, and it notes streaks and blemishes from the deterioration of the original coating, which are worth noticing when you look at the plate.
