Dahlgren Chapel sits at the heart of Georgetown University, the Jesuit institution founded in 1789 and the oldest Catholic university in the United States. This glass negative records the chapel as the National Photo Company saw it in the years between 1909 and 1919, when the firm was documenting Washington landmarks and the city's institutions for sale to visitors. Its surface shows the streaks and blemishes typical of glass plates that have aged, which only add to its character as a window onto the capital in the early twentieth century.
