This glass negative records an interior view of St. Mark's Church, though the title comes from the National Photo Company's own labeling, which has not been independently verified, so the exact building is not confirmed. The company was a commercial studio in Washington, D.C., active in the early twentieth century, and this plate is dated between 1909 and 1923. Streaks and blemishes from deterioration of the original coating appear in places, which is worth keeping in mind when studying fine detail in the pews, windows, and altar area. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
