This glass negative is titled "St. Martin's," though the record notes that the name comes from unverified data written on the negative or its sleeve, so the exact site it shows is uncertain. It was made sometime between 1909 and 1923 by the National Photo Company, a commercial studio that photographed buildings, streets, and events across the United States during those years. The negative came to the Library of Congress as part of a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French. Look for the streaks and blemishes on the glass, which come from the natural breakdown of the original coating and are part of the negative's physical history.
