The record names a waterfront roadway, Shore Drive in Brooklyn, New York, a route that followed the edge of the harbor where residents went for air and views of the water. The picture is an 8 x 10 inch glass dry plate negative from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that sold travel views of American cities and scenic places in the early 1900s. Its date is inferred from the company's 1906 catalog, which places it sometime between 1900 and 1906. The negative came to the Library of Congress through a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado, a route that kept many of the company's glass plates intact.
