Hotel St. George stood in Brooklyn Heights, a residential and commercial district that sits above the East River waterfront, and this view records it in the first years of the twentieth century. The hotel was known for its large indoor swimming pool, an unusual amenity for a city hotel of that time. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative, produced thousands of views of American towns, hotels and landmarks for sale to travelers and promoters, so the picture doubles as a record of how the hotel presented itself to the public.
