The house in this view is the E.W. Bliss mansion on Shore Drive, in the Owl's Head section of what is now Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where wealthy families built large homes along the waterfront in the early 1900s. The photograph dates to about 1906 and was made as a glass dry plate negative, a format that gave photographers sharp detail for architectural views. It belongs to the Detroit Publishing Company collection, whose photographers traveled widely to document American towns, streets and homes in this period.
