This 1904 color lithograph advertises John C. Weber and his Prize Band of America, a touring ensemble that put the bandleader's name at the center of the poster. Such posters were meant to be read from a distance, so the bold lettering and large figures carry the message in the way that a few lines of text would not. The print was made by the Strobridge Litho Company, a Cincinnati and New York firm that turned out many of the bright, mass-produced posters used for concerts, circuses, and theatrical tours in the early twentieth century. The copyright entry shows it was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office that same year, which helps date it precisely.
