The United States Marine Band, the oldest professional musical organization in the country, is the subject here, and this 1928 color lithograph advertises its appearance at the White House under the leadership of Captain Taylor Branson. The poster was printed by the United States Printing & Lithograph Co. of Baltimore and marketed through the Washington concert manager W. L. Radcliffe, whose name appears as exclusive manager. Concert posters of this kind were meant to be pinned in shop windows and public halls, so they combined bold color with the names of performers and sponsors. Branson led the band from 1927 to 1939, a period when its ceremonial and concert duties in the capital were especially visible.
