Helena Modjeska's name leads this 1899 text-only poster, which bills her with John E. Kellerd and a supporting company in four plays: *Mary Stuart*, *Macbeth*, *Much Ado About Nothing*, and *Marie Antoinette*. Born in Poland, Modjeska became one of the most admired actresses on the American stage, and her touring repertory moved between Shakespeare and romantic historical drama. The color lithograph was produced by the Courier Litho. Co. of Buffalo, New York, a firm that printed many touring theater bills of the period, under the direction of John C. Fisher. Its large lettering was designed to be read quickly by passersby.
