Looking north from Sabbath Day Point, this view takes in the long reach of Lake George, the water stretching toward the mountains that give the Adirondack foothills their character. By the early 1900s the lake had been a fashionable summer destination for more than half a century, drawing visitors by steamboat and rail, and the Detroit Publishing Company sold views like this one to travelers and resort promoters. The glass negative has a crack through its center, a flaw that is visible on the plate and a reminder of how fragile these early photographic records were.
