Wade Park's lakeside pavilion anchors a view of one of Cleveland's designed green spaces, laid out as the city grew rapidly around the turn of the twentieth century. The park took its name from the Wade family, whose gift of land helped establish it on the city's east side. This glass-plate negative comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, which documented American towns and landscapes from the 1890s into the 1920s and was known for its vivid color photochrom prints. The plate later passed to the State Historical Society of Colorado, and it preserves how urban leisure grounds were presented to the public in the early 1900s.
