Gordon Park, a lakefront park on Cleveland's east side, is the setting here, and the record notes automobiles among the subjects, a sign of how quickly cars were reaching public parks in the years before 1915. The image is a glass dry plate negative, the kind of large-format plate photographers used to capture fine detail. It came from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that recorded American towns, resorts, and scenic places in the decades around 1900. The pavilion and its surroundings offer a view of how leisure spaces looked during that transition.
