Gordon Park's beach and pavilion set this view apart from the other Cleveland scenes here, showing a stretch of Lake Erie shoreline on the city's east side. Made around 1908 as an 8 by 10 inch glass negative, it belongs to the Detroit Publishing Company's body of work, which recorded American towns, resorts and scenery for sale as prints and postcards. Lakeside parks like this one drew city residents in summer seeking cool air and open water, so the picture offers a useful glimpse of how Clevelanders spent their leisure time.
