A bathhouse on the lakefront at Euclid Beach Park, the amusement park on the shore of Lake Erie in Cleveland, anchors this view. Euclid Beach drew crowds from across northeast Ohio for swimming, rides and picnics, and bathhouses like this one gave visitors a place to change before heading into the lake. The negative is one of many made by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that photographed American towns, resorts and landscapes in the early 1900s. Its images record how leisure spaces looked in an era when lakeside amusement was becoming a popular summer pastime.
