A footbridge crosses the water in Monument Park, a Cleveland park whose ponds and walks were popular with residents in the early 1900s. The picture is a glass dry-plate negative from the Detroit Publishing Company, which photographed American towns and scenic spots for sale as postcards and color prints in the years around 1900. The negative's catalog number and the Detroit Photographic Company catalog of 1906 are the basis for its approximate date. Its composition shows how turn-of-the-century photographers framed leisure spaces, with the bridge and its reflection giving the scene a quiet, orderly feel.
